I’ve recently made a decision, and you’re not going to like it.  I’m going to stop making Malfunction Junction on a schedule.

I’m not going to bother giving you a spiel about how much I’ve enjoyed doing the comic and how hard it was for me to make this decision because, frankly, I’ve been drawing webcomics for close to three years now and I think that’s all pretty self-evident at this point.  But the more I think about it, the more I’ve come to realize that drawing a comic about my life three or four times a week has done a lot to prevent me from actually living said life.  On top of that, the feeling of pressure I’ve been associating with my comic lately has been killing my motivation to actually do it.

Mind you, I’m not going to stop drawing comics, and I’m not going to stop putting them up on the site, but I’m also not going to make any promises on when or how often I do.  This is for fun now, and that’s it.  I want to love drawing comics again, and that’s really hard to do when there’s a sense of obligation attached.  So I’m shedding the obligation and I’ll see where that takes things.  Hopefully you’ll stick around for what comes.

PS - That said, here’s a comic:

It doesn’t get any truer than this.

…Man, I really need new luck.

Jesus Camp really is an excellent documentary, despite the fact that I largely disbelieve the “warning,” so to speak, that the film tries to present. It gives the impression that evangelical Christians are growing in numbers and zealousness and that they will one day take over American politics. Unfortunately, I actually live in America and have fully-functioning eyes and ears, which allow me to observe the plainly obvious truth: religion is leaving America, and quickly. I mean, how many people even go to church these days? No matter what the number is, I can guarantee you it’s a fraction of the number of people whose grandparents went to church. On top of that, everybody’s having premarital sex these days, gay people have their own cable network, and kids are turning pagan in middle school. These are not signs that we are a nation of bible-thumpers.

Nonetheless, it is an fascinating documentary that shows a side of religious fundamentalism not many people are familiar with. Also, the church group featured in the film is Pentecostal, so if it’s nothing else to you, it’s a freak show. I mean, nothing against Pentecostals or anything, but a room full of kids speaking in tongues is just some creepy shit, no two ways about it. Anyway, that’s all I care to say. Check it out sometime if you get a chance.
