It doesn’t get any truer than this.

…Man, I really need new luck.

Jesus Camp really is an excellent documentary, despite the fact that I largely disbelieve the “warning,” so to speak, that the film tries to present. It gives the impression that evangelical Christians are growing in numbers and zealousness and that they will one day take over American politics. Unfortunately, I actually live in America and have fully-functioning eyes and ears, which allow me to observe the plainly obvious truth: religion is leaving America, and quickly. I mean, how many people even go to church these days? No matter what the number is, I can guarantee you it’s a fraction of the number of people whose grandparents went to church. On top of that, everybody’s having premarital sex these days, gay people have their own cable network, and kids are turning pagan in middle school. These are not signs that we are a nation of bible-thumpers.

Nonetheless, it is an fascinating documentary that shows a side of religious fundamentalism not many people are familiar with. Also, the church group featured in the film is Pentecostal, so if it’s nothing else to you, it’s a freak show. I mean, nothing against Pentecostals or anything, but a room full of kids speaking in tongues is just some creepy shit, no two ways about it. Anyway, that’s all I care to say. Check it out sometime if you get a chance.

Mariel is Brian’s sister, and by all rights should be in the comic a lot more often.  She’s one of our two “Phantom Roommates,” the other being Corey’s brother, Zack, who don’t technically live here, but basically do in a de facto sense.

Also, no, I didn’t get hit, but I probably should have.

I’m going to tell you what’ll happen right now. I’m going to tell you the future. What’ll happen is, I’ll get a hearing set up at the courthouse, I’ll go down there, I’ll ask the judge to rescind the tickets, and he either will or he won’t. Regardless, afterwards, I’ll go down to the parking lot, get in my car, and find another ticket on the windshield for the exact same thing. This will happen. Doubt me at your own risk.

The best part is, most banks these days scan and save electronic copies of every
check they get, which means that every time someone I’ve written a check to looks up their transaction history, they will find my tasteless commentary permanently etched upon it. I get the feeling that, one day, this practice of mine will end up making somebody’s audit a lot more interesting.
