Lyrics for singles by One Hit Wonders

A quick note here: Many of these artists had more than the one hit and are not literally "wonders" --- some, such as Harry Nilsson, actually had extraordinary musical careers. However, I placed them here because they only had one song that I like (a criterion that applies to everything in the /pub/lyrics/ directory).

I didn't want to make separate pages for each song, so I lumped them all in here whether or not they objectively deserve being labelled as such. As a serendipitous effect, I also enjoy having such an eclectic list ;-)

Of course, many of these artists really were "one hit wonders" who came and went in the blink of an eye, leaving their single impression on the world.

I Will Survive : Gloria Gaynor

At first I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinkin' I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights
Thinkin' how you did me wrong
And I grew strong
I learned how to get along

And so you're back from outer space
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I would have made you leave your key
If I'd have known for just one second you'd be back to bother me

Go on now, go
Walk out the door
Just turn around now
You're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Did I crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no not I
I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive
I will survive
Hey hey

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart
Kept trying' hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high

And you see in me
Somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you
And so you feel like droppin' in
And just expect me to be free
But I'm savin' all my lovin' for someone who's lovin' me

[chorus]

Wonder : Natalie Merchant

Doctors have come from distant cities just to see me
Stand over my bed disbelieving what they're seeing

They say I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer no explanation

Newspapers ask intimate questions want confessions
They reach into my head to steal the glory of my story

They say I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer no explanation

I believe
Fate smiled and Destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle: "Know this child will be able"
Laughed as my body she lifted: "Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith, she'll make her way"

People see me I'm a challenge to your balance
I'm over your heads how I confound you and astound you

To know I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation
And as far as they can see they can offer me no explanation

I believe
Fate smiled and Destiny
Laughed as she came to my cradle: "Know this child will be able"
Laughed as she came to my mother: "Know this child will not suffer"
Laughed as my body she lifted: "Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith, she'll make her way"

Fast Car : Tracy Chapman

You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere

Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove

You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living

You see my old man's got a problem
He lives with the bottle, that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like this
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said "somebody's got to take care of him"
So I quit school and that's what I did

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way

I remember we were driving, driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone
Be someone
Be someone

You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs

You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision
You leave tonight or live and die this way

Doll Parts : Hole

I am doll eyes
Doll mouth, doll legs
I am doll arms, big veins, dog beg
Yeah, they really want you, they really want you, they really do
Yeah, they really want you, they really want you
Well, I did too
I want to be the girl with the most cake
I love him so much it just turned to rape
I fake it so real I am beyond fake
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache

I am doll parts
Bad skin, doll heart
It stands for knife
For the rest of my life
Yeah, they really want you, they really want you, they really do
Yeah, they really want you, they really want you
Well, I did too
I want to be the girl with the most cake
He only loved those things because he loves to see them break
I faked it so real I am beyond fake
And someday, you will ache like I ache
Someday, you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache

In The Year 2525 : Zager and Evans

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to do
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs not nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long black tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
"Guess it's time for the Judgement day"

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say "I'm pleased where man has been"
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

Punk Rock Girl : The Dead Milkmen

One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there and she almost knocked me dead

Punk rock girl
Please look at me
Punk rock girl
What do you see?
Let's travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl

I tapped her on the shoulder
And said do you have a bell?
She looked at me and smiled and said she did not know

Punk rock girl
Give me a chance
Punk rock girl
Let's go slam dance
We'll dress like Minnie Pearl
Just you and me punk rock girl

We went to the Philly Pizza Company
And ordered some hot tea
The waitress said well no we only have it iced
So we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy
And someone played a Beach Boys song on the jukebox
It was "California Dreamin"
So we started screamin
On such a winter's day

She took me to her parents for a Sunday meal
Her father took one look at me and he began to squeal

Punk rock girl
It makes no sense
Punk rock girl
Your dad is always president
Who'll joust the duke of earl
Yeah you're for me punk rock girl

We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us to a record shop
We asked for Mojo Nixon
They said he don't work here
We said if you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin

We got into her car away we started rollin
I said how much you pay for this
She said nothin' man it's stolen

Punk rock girl
You look so wild
Punk rock girl
Let's have a child
We'll name her Minnie Pearl
Just you and me
Eat fudge pack and a swirl
Just you and me
We'll travel round the world
Just you and me
Punk rock girl

Life in a Northern Town : Dream Academy

The Salvation Army band played
And the children drank lemonade
And the morning lasted all day, all day
And through an open window came
Like Sinatra in a younger day
Pushing the town away

Life in a Northern town

He sat on a stony ground
And he took a cigarette out
And everyone else came down to listen
He said "In Winter 1963
It felt like the world would freeze
With John F. Kennedy and the Beatles"

Life in a northern town
All of the world shut down

In the evening we'd talk too late
Watch the water run down the drain
As we followed him down to the station
And though he never rode away goodbye
You could see it written in his eye
As the train rolled out of sight
bye bye

Life in a northern town

The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys : Traffic

If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
We were children once, playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys

The percentage you're paying is too high a price
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys

If you had just a minute to breath
And they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance
Or something similar as this
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you
As sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys

The percentage you're paying is too high a price
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
T'was the low spark of high-heeled boys

If I gave you everything that I owned
And asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?
Or take me for a ride
And strip me of everything, including my pride?
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that you're hearing is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys

Cars : Gary Numan

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars

Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars

Here in my car
The image breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door
In cars

Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars

I know I've started to think
I know I've started to think

Safety Dance : Men Without Hats

Ssss-Aaaa-Ffff-Eeee-Tttt-Yyyy
Safety-Dance!

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind

We can dance (and sing!)

Ah we can go when we want to
The night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
and surprise 'em with the victory cry

Say
We can act if want to
If we don't, nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile
I say
We can dance, we can dance --- everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance --- we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance --- everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance --- everybody's takin' the chance
Safety dance
Oh well the safety dance
Ah yes the safety dance

Ssss-Aaaa-Ffff-Eeee-Tttt-Yyyy
Safety-Dance

We can dance if we want to
We've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it, never gonna lose it
Everything'll work out right
I say
We can dance if we want to
we can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say
We can dance, we can dance --- everything's under control
We can dance, we can dance --- we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance --- everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance --- everybody's takin' the chance

Oh Well the safety dance
ah yes the safety dance
Oh well the safety dance
Oh well the safety dance
Oh yes the safety dance
Oh the safety dance yeah
Oh it's the safety dance
It's the safety dance
Well it's the safety dance
Oh it's the safety dance
Oh it's the safety dance
Oh it's the safety dance
Oh it's the safety dance

Ball and Chain : Social Distortion

Well it's been ten years and a thousand tears and look at the mess I'm in
A broken nose and a broken heart, an empty bottle of gin
Well I sit and I pray in my broken down Chevrolet
While I'm singing to myself: there's got to be another way

Take away, take away, take away this ball and chain
Well I'm lonely and I'm tired and I can't take any more pain
Take away, take away, never to return again
Take away, take away, take awaaaaaay . . . take away this ball and chain

Well I've searched and I've searched to find the perfect life
A brand new car and a brand new suit --- I even got me a little wife
But wherever I have gone I was sure to find myself there
You can run all your life but not go anywhere

[chorus]

Well I'll pass the bar on the way to my dingy hotel room
I spent all my money --- I've been drinking since half past noon
Well I'll wake there in the morning or maybe in the county jail
Times are hard and getting harder; I'm going to lose and destined to fail

[chorus]

When a Man Loves a Woman : Percy Sledge

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she's bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be

Well, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin' to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don't treat me bad

When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Lovin' eyes can't ever see

When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never own some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're my world

When a man loves a woman

Never Been Any Reason : Head East

Did you see any action? Did you make any friends?
Would you like some affection before I leave again?
I've been walking behind you since you've been able to see
There's never been any reason for you to think about me

Did you have any bad dreams? Did you break any glass?
Would you be my companion? Is there even a chance?
You've been talking in circles since I've been able to cry
There's never been any reason for ever telling me why

Save my life, I'm going down for the last time
Woman with the sweet loving better than a white line
Bring a good feeling ain't had in such a long time
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time

Have you ever been lonely? Do you have any fun?
Do you ever think of me? I'm just another one, yeah
You never give me no answers, you never tell me the truth
There's never been any reason for me to think about you
There's never been any reason
There's never been any reason
There's never been any reason
Yaaaaaaa
There's never been any reason

Save my life, I'm going down for the last time
Woman with the sweet loving better than a white line
(Don't you know she could) Bring a good feeling ain't had in such a long time
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time

Whoa

Save my life, I'm going down for the last time
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time

Relax : Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Oh oh
Wee-ell-Now!

Relax don't do it when you want to go to it
Relax don't do it when you want to come
Relax don't do it when you want to come
When you want to come

Relax don't do it when you want to to go to it
Relax don't do it when you want to come
Relax don't do it when you want to suck to it
Relax don't do it when you want to come
Come-oh oh oh

Make making it your intention-ooh yeah

Relax don't do it when you want to come

Relax don't do it
When you want to suck to it
Relax don't do it (love)
When you want to come
When you want to come
When you want to come
Come-huh

Get it up
The scene of love
Oh feel it

Relax Relax Relax
Higher higher Relax

Hey-
Pray

Radioactive : The Firm

Well I'm not uptight, not unattractive
Turn me on tonight, I'm radioactive (radioactive)
Well it's not a fight, and I'm not your captive
Turn me loose to the night - I'm radioactive (radioactive)

I want to stay with you
I don't want to play with you (baby)
I want just to lay with you and I want you to know

Got to concentrate
Don't be distractive
Turn me loose tonight - I'm radioactive (radioactive)

Do They Know It's Christmas : Band Aid

It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime

But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun

There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears

And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa
This Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life

Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Here's to you --- raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them --- underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world

Feed the world

Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

Rock Me Gently : Andy Kim

Ain't it good
Ain't it right
That you are with me
Here tonight
The music playin'
Our bodies swayin' in time
(In time, in time, in time)

Touching you
So warm and tender
Lord, I feel such a sweet surrender
Beautiful is the dream that makes you mine

Mmm
Rock me gently
Rock me slowly
Take it easy
Don't you know
That I have never been loved like this before

Baby baby!

[chorus]

Oh my darlin'
Oh my baby
You got the moves that drive me crazy
And on your face I see a trace of love
(Of love, of love, of love)
Come hold me close
Don't let me go
I need you, honey
I love you so
You were made for me by the stars above

Oooh
[chorus]

Spaceman : Harry Nilsson

Bang, bang, shoot em' up, destiny
Bang, bang, shoot em' up to the moon
Bang, bang, shoot em' up one, two, three
(One, two, three, four!)

I wanted to be a spaceman
That's what I wanted to be
But now that I am a spaceman
Nobody cares about me

Hey mother earth
Won't 'cha bring me back down
Safely to the sea
But 'round and around and around and around
Is all she ever say to me

I wanted to make a good run
I wanted to go to the moon
I knew that it had to be fun
I told 'em to send me real soon
I wanted to be a spaceman
I wanted to be it so bad
But now that I am a spaceman
I'd rather be back on the pad

Hey mother earth
Won't 'cha bring me back down
Safely to the sea
But 'round and around and around and around
Is just a lot of lunacy
(Yeah!)
'Round and around and around and around and around
(So bring me back down)
'Round and around and around and around and around
Safe on the ground

Hey mother earth
Won't 'cha bring me back down
Safely to the sea
But 'round and around and around and around
Is all she ever say to me, yeah

You know I wanted to be a spaceman
That's what I wanted to be
But now that I am a spaceman
Nobody cares about me

Say, hey! You mother earth
You better bring me back down
I've taken just as much as I can
But around and around and around and around
Is the problem of a spaceman

Puttin' On The Ritz : Berlin Irving

[Revised 1946 version]

Have you seen the well-to-do up and down Park Avenue
On that famous thoroughfare with their noses in the air
High hats and Arrow collars, white spats and lots of dollars
Spending every dime for a wonderful time

If you're blue and you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the ritz

Diff'rent types who wear a day coat, pants with stripes
And cutaway coat, perfect fits
Puttin' on the ritz

Dressed up like a million dollar trouper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super duper

Come let's mix where Rockefellers walk with sticks
Or "um-ber-ellas" in their mitts
Puttin' on the ritz

Strolling up the avenue so happy
All dressed up just like an English chappie
Very snappy

You'll declare it's simply "top-thing" to be there
And hear them swapping smart tidbits
Puttin' on the ritz

Bette Davis Eyes : Kim Carnes

Her hair is Harlow gold
Her lips a sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll turn her music on you
You won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow
She's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious
And she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She's got Greta Garbo's stand-off sighs
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home
It whets your appetite
She'll lay you on her throne
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come up blue
She's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll expose you
When she snows you
Hope you're pleased with the crumbs she throws you

She's ferocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious
And she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

Joey : Concrete Blonde

Joey, baby
Don't get crazy
Detours, fences
I get defensive

I know you've heard it all before
So I don't say it anymore
I just stand by and let you fight your secret war
And though I used to wonder why
I used to cry till I was dry
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside
Oh, Joey, if you're hurtin', so am I

Joey, honey
I got some money
All is forgiven
Listen, listen

But if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you, well, I guess you scared me too
But we got lucky once before
And I don't wanna close the door
And if you're somewhere out there passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore

Well, I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
And when you said I scared you
Well I guess you scared me too

But if it's love you're looking for
Then I can give a little more
And if you're somewhere drunk and passed out on the floor
Oh Joey, I'm not angry anymore

Angry anymore
Angry anymore

Seasons in the Sun : Terry Jacks

Goodbye to you, my trusted friend
We've known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we've climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and ABC's
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees

Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I'll be there

We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time

Goodbye Papa, please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along

Goodbye Papa, it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Little children everywhere
When you see them I'll be there

We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone

Goodbye Michelle, my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground

Goodbye Michelle, it's hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there

We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons have all gone
All our lives we had fun, we had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed were just seasons out of time

Spirit in the Sky : Norman Greenbaum

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's best
When they lay me down to die
Goin on up to the Spirit in the sky

Goin on up to the Spirit in the sky (Spirit in the sky)
That's where I'm gonna go when I die (When I die)
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best

Prepare yourself, you know it a must
Gotta have a friend named Jesus
So you know that when you die
It's gonna recommend you to the Spirit in the sky (spirit in the sky)

Goin on up to the Spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die (when you die)
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best

Never been a sinner, I've never sinned
I've got a friend named Jesus
So you know that when I die
It's gonna set me up with the Spirit in the sky

[chorus]
[chorus]

Go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best

One Night In Bangkok : Murray Head

[American]
Bangkok, Oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world in a
Show with everything but Yul Brynner

Time flies - doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tyrolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change - don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue

It's Iceland... or the Philippines... or Hastings... or... or this place!

[singers]
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

[American]
One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother

[singers]
It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board, not looking at the city

[American]
Whaddya mean? Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town

[singers]
Tea, girls, warm, sweet, sweet
Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite

[American]
Get Thai'd! You're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

[singers]
One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

[American]
Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha

And thank God I'm only watching the game, controlling it

I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you

So you better go back to your bars, your temples, your massage parlours

[singers]
One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

Ride Captain Ride : Blues Image

Seventy-three men sailed up
From the San Francisco Bay
Rolled off of their ship
And here's what they had to say

"We're callin' everyone to ride along
To another shore
We can laugh our lives away
and be free once more."

But no one heard them callin'
No one came at all
'Cause they were too busy watchin'
Those old raindrops fall

As a storm was blowin'
Out on the peaceful sea
Seventy-three men sailed off
To history

Ride, captain ride
Upon your mystery ship
Be amazed at the friends
You have here on your trip

Ride captain ride
Upon your mystery ship
On your way to a world
That others might have missed

Tubthumping : Chumbawamba

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times

Oh danny boy
Danny boy
Danny boy

[chorus]

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

[refrain]

Don't cry for me
Next door neighbour

[chorus]

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

Our House : Madness

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired, she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our . . .

Our house it has a crowd
There's always something happening
And it's usually quite loud
Our mum she's so house-proud
Nothing ever slows her down
And a mess is not allowed

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our . . .

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our . . .
Something tells you that you've got to get away from it

Father gets up late for work
Mother has to iron his shirt
Then she sends the kids to school
Sees them off with a small kiss
She's the one they're going to miss
In lots of ways

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our . . .

I remember way back then when everything was true and when
We would have such a very good time such a fine time
Such a happy time
And I remember how we'd play simply waste the day away
Then we'd say nothing would come between us two dreamers

Father wears his Sunday best
Mother's tired she needs a rest
The kids are playing up downstairs
Sister's sighing in her sleep
Brother's got a date to keep
He can't hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our street
Our house, in the middle of our . . .

Our house, was our castle and our keep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, that was where we used to sleep
Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house . . .

Ballad Of The Green Berets : Barry Sadler

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Berets

Silver wings upon their chests
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
Trained to combat hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage taken from the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chests
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her this last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

It's My Party : Lesley Gore

It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to
Cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
But Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

[chorus]

Play all my records, keep dancing all night
but leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancing with me
I've got no reason to smile

[chorus]

Oh, Judy and Johnny just walked through that door
Like a queen with her king
Oh, what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring

[chorus]

Nina, sixteen, had a baby, left her parents, lived alone

Bobbie joined a new-wave band, and changed her name to Bobbie-sox
Eloise, who played guitar, sang songs about whales and cocks
Terri didn't give a shit, was just a nihilist
Ronnie was much more my style, she wrote songs just like this

Jezebel went forty days drinking nothing but Perrier
Dinah drove her Chevrolet into the San Francisco bay
Judy came from O-hi-o, she's a Scientologist
Pomerante, here's a kiss, I chose you to end this list

Eighty-eight lines about forty-four women

99 Red Balloons : Nena

You and I in a little toy shop Hast du etwas Zeit fuer mich
buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer dich
Set them free at the break of dawn Von 99 Luftballons
'Til one by one, they were gone Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Back at base, bugs in the software Denkst du vielleicht g'rad an mich
Flash the message, "Something's out there" Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer dich
Floating in the summer sky Von 99 Luftballons
99 red balloons go by Und dass sowas von sowas kommt

99 red balloons floating in the summer sky 99 Luftballons
Panic bells, it's red alert Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
There's something here from somewhere else Hielt man fuer Ufos aus dem All
The war machine springs to life Darum schickte ein General
Opens up one eager eye 'ne Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Focusing it on the sky Alarm zu geben, wenn's (sie?) war
Where 99 red balloons go by Dabei war'n da am Horizont
. Nur 99 Luftballons
99 Decision Street, 99 ministers meet
To worry, worry, super-scurry 99 Duesenjager
Call the troops out in a hurry Jeder war ein grosser Krieger
This is what we've waited for Hielten sich fuer Captain Kirk
This is it boys, this is war Das gab ein grosses Feuerwerk
The president is on the line Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
As 99 red balloons go by Und fuehlten sich gleich angemacht
. Dabei schoss man am Horizont
99 Knights of the air Auf 99 Luftballons
ride super-high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a Silverhero 99 Kriegsminister
Everyone's a Captain Kirk Streichholz und Benzinkanister
With orders to identify Hielten sich fuer schlaue Leute
To clarify and classify Witterten schon fette Beute
Scramble in the summer sky Riefen: Kring und wollten Macht
As 99 red balloons go by Mann, wer hatte das gedacht
. Dass es einmal soweit kommt
As 99 red balloons go by Wegen 99 Luftballons

99 dreams I have had 99 Jahre Krieg
In every one a red balloon Liessen keine Platz fuer Sieger
It's all over and I'm standin' pretty Kriegsminister gibt's nicht mehr
In this dust that was a city Und auch keine Duesenflieger
If I could find a souvenier Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Just to prove the world was here... Seh' die Welt in Truemmern liegen
And here is a red balloon Hab' 'nen Luftballon gefunden
I think of you and let it go Denk' an dich und lass' ihn fliegen

Venus : Bananarama

Goddess on the mountain top
Burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name

She's got it
Yeah, baby, she's got it
I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire

Her weapons were her crystal eyes
Making every man a man
Black as the dark night she was
Got what no one else had
Wa!

[chorus]

Goddess on the mountain top
Burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name

[chorus]

I Don't Like Mondays : Boomtown Rats

The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload
And nobody's gonna go to school today
She's going to make them stay at home
And Daddy doesn't understand it
He always said she was as good as gold
And he can see no reason
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?

(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
(Tell me why) I don't like Mondays
I want to shoot the whole day down

The Telex machine is kept so clean
As it types to a waiting world
And Mother feels so shocked
Father's world is rocked
And their thoughts turn to their own little girl
Sweet Sixteen! Ain't that peachy keen?
No, it ain't so neat to admit defeat
They can see *no reasons*
'Cause there are *no reasons*
What reasons do you need?

[chorus]

And now the playing's stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with her toys a while
And school's out early and soon we'll be learning
And the lesson today is how to die
And then the bullhorn crackles
And the captain tackles
With the problems and the how's and why's
And he can see *no reasons*
'Cause there are *no reasons*
What reason do you need to die?

[chorus]

Video Killed The Radio Star : Buggles

I heard you on the wireless back in Fifty Two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through

Oh-a oh

They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine and new technology
and now I understand the problems you can see
Oh-a oh

I met your children
Oh-a oh

What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star

Pictures came and broke your heart
Oh-a-a-a oh

And now we meet in an abandoned studio
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember the jingles used to go
Oh-a oh

You were the first one
Oh-a oh

You were the last one

Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car
We can't rewind we've gone too far
Oh-a-aho oh
Oh-a-aho oh

Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star

In my mind and in my car
We can't rewind we've gone too far

Switchin' To Glide : Kings

Nothing matters but the weekend
From a Tuesday point of view
Like a kettle in the kitchen
I feel the steam begin to brew

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

Energy can be directed
I'm turning it up, turning it down
Even love can be affected
Harmony's the sweetest sound

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

Everybody gets the now now
Hear it ringing in their ears
Lots of ways that you can go go
Look around, they'll disappear

Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide
Switchin' to glide

Switchin' to glide
Yeah switchin' to glide
Yeah switchin' to glide
Ahh, yeah, oh, ahh
I'm switchin' to glide
I'm trying to find some way out of this hole, you know
Out of this hole

I Do The Rock : Tim Curry

Edith Sitwell giving readings, Fourteen Moscow road
Osbert giving champagne parties, Sachi's got a cold
Gertrude's hanging pictures, Alice making tea
Me, I do the only thing that still makes sense to me
I do the rock

John and Yoko farming beef, raising protein quota
Sometimes they make love and art inside their Dakota
Rodney's feeling sexy, Mick is really frightfully bold
Me, I do the only thing that stops me growing old
I do the rock

Well it's stimulating . . .

Solzhenitsyn feels exposed, built a barbed wire prison
Nitchze's six feet under but his baby's still got rhythm
Einstein's celebrating ten decades but I'm afraid
philosophy is just too much responsibility for me
I do the rock

Baby Ruth and Dizzy Dean, Best and Paul and Caudre
Little Mo, Virginia Wade, Pistol Pete and O.J.
I've always liked Dimaggio and Rockne's pretty Knute you know
I could never whack a ball with such velocity
I do the rock

When I can get it
It's stimulating
I'm a keen student

Liz and Dick and Brit and Liza, Jaqueline Kate and Farrah
Meg and Roddy, John Travolta, Gov. Brown and Linda
Interview in People magazine with Rona and the Queen
It must be really frightful to attract publicity
I do the rock myself

Carter, Begin and Sadat
Breshnev, Deng and Castro
Everyday negotiate us closer to disastro
Idi Amin and the Shah and Al-Fatah is quite bizarre
I could never get the hang of ideology
I do the rock

Sunshine, Sunshine
Well you can't get enough of it man
Sunshine, Sunshine
Oh, we got the top down now
If you don't have the top down, pull the top down
How often do you get a sunny day
Come to the rock, the rock will cure your ears, man
Stimulating, stimulating

Signs : Five Man Electrical Band

And the sign said "Long haired freaky people need not apply"
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why
He said "You look like a fine upstanding young man, I think you'll do"
So I took off my hat and said "Imagine that --- me working for you!"

Sign Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
"Do this!" "Don't do that!" Can't you read the sign?

And the sign said anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight
So I jumped on the fence and yelled at the house, "Hey, what gives you the right?
To put up a fence to keep me out or to keep Mother Nature in
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face, man you're some kinda sinner"

[Chorus]

Now, hey you Mister! Can't you read?
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't even watch, no you can't eat
You ain't suppose to be here

The sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside

And the sign said everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all
I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper
And I made up my own little sign
I said "Thank you, Lord, for thinking about me
I'm alive and doin' fine"

[Chorus]

[Chorus]

Mexican Radio : Wall Of Voodoo

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say

I'm on a mexican radio
I'm on a mexican radio

I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the U.S. inflation
I understand just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle

I wish I was in Tiajuana
Eating barbecued iguana
I'd take requests on the telephone
I'm on a wavelength far from home
I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say

Kids In America : Kim Wilde

Looking out a dirty old window
Down below the cars in the city go rushing by
I sit here alone and I wonder why

Friday night and everyone's moving
I can feel the heat but it's soothing
Heading down, I search for the beat in this dirty town

Downtown the young ones are going
Downtown the young ones are growing

We're the kids in America
We're the kids in America
Everybody live for the music-go-round

Bright lights the music gets faster
Look boy, don't check on your watch, not another glance
I'm not leaving now, honey not a chance

Hot-shot, give me no problems
Much later baby you'll be saying never mind
You know life is cruel, life is never kind

Kind hearts don't make a new story
Kind hearts don't grab any glory

[chorus]

Come closer, honey that's better
Got to get a brand new experience
Feeling right
Oh don't try to stop baby
Hold me tight

Outside a new day is dawning
Outside Suburbia's sprawling everywhere
I don't want to go baby
New York to East California
There's a new wave coming I warn you

Garden Party : Rick Nelson

I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again
When I got to the garden party they all knew my name
No one recognized me; I didn't look the same

But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well
You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself

People came from miles around everyone was there
Yoko brought her walrus there was magic in the air
And over in the corner much to my surprise
Mr. Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise

[chorus]

Played them all the old songs, I thought that's why they came
No one heard the music, I didn't look the same
I said hello to "Mary Lou", she belongs to me
When I sang a song about a honky-tonk, it was time to leave

[chorus]

Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lot of luck
But if memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck

[chorus]

The Rose : Bette Middler

Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger, an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower and you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes a chance
It's the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love in the spring becomes the rose

Ah, Leah : Donnie Iris

Leah it's been a long long time, you're such a sight you're
Looking better than a body has a right to
Dontcha know we're playing with fire
But we can't stop this burning desire

Leah!
Ah, Leah! Here we go again!
Ah, Leah! Is it ever gonna end?
Ah, Leah! Here we go again!
Ah, Leah! We ain't learned our lesson yet!

I see your lips and I wonder who's been kissing them
I never knew how badly I was missing them
We both know we're never gonna make it
But when we touch, we never have to fake it

[chorus]

Baby it's no good, we're just asking for trouble
I can touch you but I don't know how to love you
It ain't no use, we're headed for disaster
Our minds say no but our hearts are talking faster

[chorus]

Ah Leah Leah Leah, we're never never never gonna make it!

Buddy Holly : Weezer

What's with these homies, dissin' my girl
Why do they gotta front
What did we ever do to these guys
That made them so violent

Ooh-ooh, but you know I'm yours
Ooh-ooh, and I know you're mine
Ooh-ooh, and that's why

Wee-ooh, I look just like Buddy Holly
Oh-oh, and you're Mary Tyler Moore
I don't care what they say about us anyway
I don't care 'bout that

Don't you ever fear, I'm always near
I know that you need help
Your tongue is twisted, your eyes are slit
You need a guardian

Bang! Bang! a knock at the door
another big Bang! and you're down on the floor
oh no! What do we do?
Don't look now but I lost my shoe
I can't run and I can't kick
What's a matter babe are you feelin' sick?
What's a matter, what's a matter, what's a matter you?
What's a matter babe, are you feelin' blue?

Super Freak : Rick James

She's a very kinky girl
The kind you don't take home to mother
She will never let your spirits down
Once you get her off the street, ow girl

She likes the boys in the band
She says that I'm her all-time favorite
When I make my move to her room it's the right time
She's never hard to please

That girl is pretty wild now
The girl's a super freak
The kind of girl you read about
In new-wave magazines
That girl is pretty kinky
The girl's a super freak
I really love to taste her
Every time we meet
She's all right, she's all right
That girl's all right with me, yeah
She's a super freak, super freak
She's super-freaky, yow

Super freak, super freak

She's a very special girl
The kind of girl you want to know
From her head down to her toenails
Down to her feet, yeah
And she'll wait for me at backstage with her girlfriends
In a limousine
Going back in Chinatown

Three's not a crowd to her, she says
"Room 714, I'll be waiting"
When I get there she's got incense, wine and candles
It's such a freaky scene

Temptations sing
Ohhhhh
Super freak, super freak
That girl's a super freak
Ohhhhh

She's a very kinky girl
The kind you don't take home to mother
She will never let your spirits down
Once you get her off the street, ow girl

Blow, Danny!

Louie, Louie : Kingsmen

Louie Louie, me gotta go
Louie Louie, me gotta go

A fine little girl, she wait for me
Me catch the ship across the sea
I sailed the ship all alone
I never think I'll make it home

[chorus]

Three nights and days we sailed the sea
Me think of girl constantly
On the ship, I dream she there
I smell the rose in her hair

[chorus]

Me see Jamaican moon above
It won't be long me see me love
Me take her in my arms and then
I tell her I never leave again

[chorus]

A Lover's Concerto : The Toys

How gentle is the rain
That falls softly on the meadow
Birds high up in the trees
Serenade the clouds with their melodies

Oh, see there beyond the hill
The bright colors of the rainbow
Some magic from above
Made this day for us just to fall in love

Now, I belong to you
From this day until forever
Just love me tenderly
And I'll give to you every part of me

Oh, don't ever make me cry
Through long lonely nights without us
Be always true to me
Keep this day in your heart eternally

One day we shall return
To this place upon the meadow
We'll walk out in the rain
See the birds above singing once again

Oh, you hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful

You'll hold me in your arms
And say once again you'll love me
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful

If You Wanna Be Happy : Jimmy Soul

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall
As soon as he married her and then she starts
To do the things that will break his heart

But if you make an ugly woman your wife
A-you'll be happy for the rest of your life
An ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on time
And she'll always give you peace of mind

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

[Sax solo]

Don't let your friends say you have no taste
Go ahead and marry anyway
Though her face is ugly, her eyes don't match
Take it from me, she's a better catch

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

[Spoken:]
Say man!
Hey baby!
I saw your wife the other day!
Yeah?
Yeah, an' she's ug-leeee!
Yeah, she's ugly, but she sure can cook, baby!
Yeah, alright!

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you

Kiss Him Goodbye : Steam

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

He'll never love you, the way that I love you
'Cause if he did, no no, he wouldn't make you cry
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. Wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, now

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

Listen to me now

He's never near you to comfort and cheer you
When all those sad tears are fallin' baby from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. I wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, na-na na-na-na na na

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

[fade in]
Hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
[repeat many times and fade out]

At Seventeen : Janis Ian

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired

The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth

And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say come dance with me
And murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems
At seventeen

A brown eyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
Said, pity please the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve

The rich relationed hometown queen
Married into what she needs
A guarantee of company
And haven for the elderly

Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
Indebentures of quality
And dubious integrity
Their small town eyes will gape at you
In dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received
At seventeen

To those of us who know the pain
Of valentines that never came
And those whose names were never called
When choosing sides for basketball

It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me

We all play the game and when we dare
To cheat ourselves at solitaire
Inventing lovers on the phone
Repenting other lives unknown
That call and say, come dance with me
And murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me
At seventeen

Magic : Pilot

Ho, ho, ho
It's magic you know
Never believe, it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe, it's not so

Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning
Lazy day in bed
Music in my head
Crazy music playing in the morning light

I love my sunny day
Dream of far away
Dreaming on my pillow in the morning
Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning light

Brick : Ben Folds Five

Six a.m. day after Christmas
I throw some clothes on in the dark
The smell of cold
Car seat is freezing
The world is sleeping and I am numb

Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down to Charlotte
They're not home to find us out
And we drive
Now that I have found someone
I'm feeling more alone
Than I ever have before

She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly
Off the coast and I'm headed nowhere
She's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
Can't you see
It's not me you're dying for
Now she's feeling more alone
Than she ever has before

[chorus]

As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me son its time
To tell the truth
And she broke down and I broke down
cause I was tired of lying

Driving back to her apartment
For the moment were alone
She's alone
And I'm alone
Now I know it

Viva la Vida : Coldplay

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead, long live the king"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you'd gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Still The One : Orleans

We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear

You're still the one I want to talk to in bed
Still the one that turns my head
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

You're still the one that makes me laugh
Still the one that's my better half
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

You're still the one that makes me strong
Still the one I want to take along
We're still having fun
And you're still the one (yes you are)

Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new

You're still the one that I love to touch
Still the one and I can't get enough
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

You're still the one who can scratch my itch
Still the one and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

You are still the one that makes me shout
Still the one that I dream about
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

You're still the one
Yeah still the one
We're still having fun
And you're still the one

Laid : James

This bed is on fire with passionate love
The neighbors complain about the noises above
But she only comes when she's on top

The therapist said not to see you no more
She said you're like a disease without any cure
She said I'm so obsessed that I'm becoming a bore

Ah you think you're so pretty

Caught your hand inside the till
Slammed your fingers in the door
Fought with kitchen knives and skewers
Dressed me up in womens' clothes
Messed around with gender roles
Line my eyes and call me pretty

Moved out of the house, so you moved next door
I locked you out, you cut a hole in the wall
I found you sleeping next to me, I thought I was alone
You're driving me crazy --- when are you coming home

Laid
Laid

Since You Been Gone : Rainbow

I get the same old dreams, same time every night
Fall to the ground and I wake up
So I get out of bed, put on my shoes, and in my head
Thoughts fly back to the breakup

These four walls are closing in
Look at the fix you've put me in

Since you've been gone
Since you've been gone
I'm outta my head, can't take it
Could I be wrong, but since you've been gone
You cast the spell, so break it
Since you've been gone

So in the night I stand beneath the backstreet light
I read the words that you sent to me
I can take the afternoon
The nighttime comes around too soon
You can't know what you mean to me

Your poison letter, your telegram
Just goes to show you don't give a damn

[chorus]

If you will come back
Baby you know
You'll never do wrong

[chorus]

Ever since you've been gone

If Living Is Without You : Harry Nielson

No, I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows

No, I can't forget tomorrorow
When I think of all my sorrows
When I had you there but then I let you go
And now it's only fair that I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give any more
Can't live if living is without you
I can't give, I can't give any more

No, I can't forget this evening
Or your face as you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile but in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes, it shows

How to Save a Life : Fray

Step one: you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

[chorus]

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

[chorus]

[chorus]

[chorus]

Keep Your Hands To Yourself : Georgia Satellites

I got a little change in my pocket goin' jing-a-ling-a-ling
Wants to call you on the telephone baby, a-give you a ring
But each time we talk, I get the same old thing
Always "no hugg-ee no kiss-ee until I get a weddin' ring"
My honey my baby, don't put my love upon no shelf
She said "Don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself"

B-b-b-baby baby baby why you wan' treat me this way
You know I'm still your lover boy I still feel the same way
That's when she told me a story, 'bout free milk and a cow
And said "no hugg-ee no kiss-ee until I get a weddin' vow"
My honey my baby, don't put my love upon no shelf
She said "Don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself"

(Go man go)

Hold it here

See I wanted her real bad, and I was about to give in
But that's when she started talking about true love
started talking about sin
And I said, honey I'll live with you for the rest of my life
She said "no hugg-ee no kiss-ee until you make me your wife"
My honey my baby, don't put my love upon no shelf
She said "Don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself"

Spiders And Snakes : Jim Stafford

I remember when Mary Lou
said "You wanna walk me home from school?"
Well I said, "Yes, I do"
She said, "I don't have to go right home
And I'm the kind that likes to be alone
As long as you would"
I said, "Me, too"

And so we took a stroll
Wound up down by the swimmin' hole
And she said, "Do what you want to do"
I got silly and found a frog
In the water by a hollow log
And I shook it at her
And I said "This frog's for you"
She said...

I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
You fool, you fool
I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes to love me
Like I want to be loved by you

Well, I think of that girl from time to time
I call her up when I got a dime
I say, "Hello, baby"
She says, "Ain't you cool"
I say, "Do you remember when?
And would you like to get together again?"
She says, "I'll see you after school"

I was shy and so for a while
Most of my love was touch and smile
Til she said, "Come on over here"
I was nervous as you might guess
Still looking for somethin' to slip down her dress
And she said, "Let's make it perfectly clear"
She said...

[chorus]

We're Not Gonna Take It : Twisted Sister

Oh, we're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh, we're not gonna take it anymore

We've got the right to choose it
There ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song

We'll fight the powers that be, just
Don't pick our destiny, 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong

[chorus]

Oh, you're so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you

Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do

Oh, Oh

We're right (yeah)
We're free (yeah)
We'll fight (yeah)
You'll see (yeah)

[chorus]

[chorus]

No way

Oh, Oh

We're right (yeah)
We're free (yeah)
We'll fight (yeah)
You'll see (yeah)

[chorus]

[chorus]

Just you try and make us
We're not gonna take it
Come on

No, we ain't gonna take it
You're all worthless and weak
We're not gonna take it anymore

Now drop and give me twenty
We're not gonna take it
Oh, crinch pin

No, we ain't gonna take it
Oh, you and your uniform
We're not gonna take it anymore

Come On Feel The Noise : Quiet Riot

Come on, feel the noise
Girls, rock your boys
We'll get wild, wild, wild
Wild, wild, wild

So you think I got an evil mind
I'll tell you honey
And I don't know why
And I don't know why

So you think my singing's out of time
It makes me money
And I don't know why
And I don't know why anymore
Oh no

[chorus]

[chorus]

Until dawn

So you think I got a funny face
I got no worries
And I don't know why
And I don't know why

So I'm a scruff bag well it's no disgrace
I'm in no hurry
And I don't know why
I don't know why anymore
Oh no

[chorus]

So you think we are the lazy type
You should know better
And I don't know why
I don't know why

And you say I got a dirty mind
I'm a mean go getter
And I don't know why
And I don't know why anymore
Oh no

[chorus]

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida : Iron Butterfly

In a gadda da vida, honey
Don't you know that I'm lovin' you
In a gadda da vida, baby
Don't you know that I'll always be true

Oh, won't you come with me
And take my hand
Oh, won't you come with me
And walk this land
Please take my hand

Ozzy Osbourne : Crazy Train

Crazy
But that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Life's a bitter shame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words Yeh-h

Heirs of a cold war
That's what we've become
Inheriting troubles
I'm mentally numb
Crazy
I just cannot bear
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

Dead Man's Party : Oingo Boingo

I'm all dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin' with a dead man over my shoulder

Waiting for an invitation to arrive
Goin' to a party where no one's still alive

I was struck by lighting
Walkin' down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It's a dead man's party
Who could ask for more
Everybody's comin', leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door
(Don't run away it's only me)

All dressed up with nowhere to go
Walkin' with a dead man
Waitin' for an invitation to arrive
With a dead man . . . Dead Man

Got my best suit and my tie
Shiny silver dollar on either eye
I hear the chauffeur comin' to the door
Says there's room for maybe just one more

Don't run away it's only me
Don't be afraid of what you can't see
Don't run away it's only me

Get Together : The Youngbloods

Love is but a song to sing
Fear's the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Some may come and some may go
We shall surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's there at you command

Get It On : T.Rex

Well you're dirty and sweet, clad in black
Don't look back and I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you're slim and you're weak
You've got the teeth of a hydra upon you
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Get it on, bang the gong, get it on
Get it on, bang the gong, get it on

You're built like a car, you've got a hub cap diamond star halo
You're built like a car, oh yeah
You're an untamed youth that's the truth with your cloak full of eagles
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

[chorus]

You're windy and wild, you've got the blues in your shoes and your stockings
You're windy and wild, oh yeah
You're built like a car, you've got a hub cap diamond star halo
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

[chorus]

You're dirty and sweet, clad in black
Don't look back and I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
You dance when you walk so let's dance, take a chance, understand me
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Run-Around : Blues Traveler

Oh, once upon a midnight dearie
I woke with something in my head
I couldn't escape the memory
Of a phone call and of what you said
Like a game show contestant with a parting gift
I could not believe my eyes
When I saw through the voice of a trusted friend
Who needs to humor me and tell me lies
Yeah humor me and tell me lies
And I'll lie too and say I don't mind
And as we seek so shall we find
And when you're feeling open I'll still be here
But not without a certain degree of fear
Of what will be with you and me
I still can see things hopefully

But you
Why you wanna give me a run-around
Is it a sure-fire way to speed things up
When all it does is sloooooooooow me down

And shake me and my confidence
About a great many things
But I've been there I can see it cower
Like a nervous magician waiting in the wings
Of a bad play where the heroes are right
And nobody thinks or expects too much
And Hollywood's calling for the movie rights
Singing "hey babe let's keep in touch"
Hey baby let's keep in touch

But I want more than a touch I want you to reach me
And show me all the things no one else can see
So what you feel becomes mine as well
And soon if we're lucky we'd be unable to tell
What's yours and mine the fishing's fine
And it doesn't have to rhyme so don't you feed me a line

[chorus]

Tra la la la la bomba dear this is the pilot speaking
And I've got some news for you
It seems my ship still stands no matter what you drop
And there ain't a whole lot that you can do
Oh sure the banner may be torn and the wind's gotten colder
Perhaps I've grown a little cynical
But I know no matter what the waitress brings
I shall drink in and always be full
My cup shall always be full

Oh I like coffee
And I like tea
I'd like to be able to enter a final plea
I still got this dream that you just can't shake
I love you to the point you can no longer take
Well all right okay
So be that way
I hope and pray
That there's something left to say

[chorus]

[chorus]

The Letter : The Box Tops

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

I don't care how much money I gotta spend
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah!

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane
Ain't got time to take a fast train
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home
My baby, just-a wrote me a letter

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no more
Listen mister, can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah!

For What It's Worth : Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

[chorus]

What a field day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say "hooray for our side"

[chorus]

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound --- Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound --- Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound --- Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound --- Everybody look what's going down

Sweet Dreams : Eurythmics

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree
I travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Ooh...hey...ooh...aha, oh...

Ooh...hey...oh...
Hold your head up, keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on

Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go? : Soft Cell

Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love
Tainted love

Now I know I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
You don't really want IT any more from me
To make things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you'LL think love is to pray
But I'm sorry I don't pray that way

[chorus]

Don't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm going to pack my things and go
Tainted love, tainted love
Tainted love, tainted love
Touch me baby, tainted love
Touch me baby, tainted love
Tainted love
Tainted love
Tainted love

[break]

Baby, baby
Where did our love go?
Oh, don't you leave me
Don't you leave me no more
I've got this burning, yearning yearning
feeling inside me
Oh, deep inside me
And it hurts so bad

You came into my life
So tenderly
With a burning love
That stings like a bee
And now that I've surrendered
So helplessly
You know I believe
You want to leave me

Oh, baby baby
Where did our love go
Oh, don't you leave me
Oh, baby baby
Where did our love go?
Oh don't you leave me
Don't you leave me no more

The Boys Are Back In Town : Thin Lizzy

Guess who just got back today
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed that much to say
But man, I still think those cats are crazy

They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
Told 'em you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy

The boys are back in town (The boys are back in town)
The boys are back in town (The boys are back in town again)

You know that chick that used to dance a lot
Every night she'd be on the floor, shakin' what she got
When I say she was cool she was red hot
I mean she was steamin'

And that time over at Johnny's place
Well, this chick got up and she slapped Johnny's face
Man, we just fell about the place
If that chick don't wanna know, forget her

[chorus]

Spread the word around
Guess who's back in town

Just spread the word around

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Dino's Bar 'n' Grill
The drink will flow and the blood will spill
And if the boys wanna fight, you better let 'em

That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long till the summer comes
Now that the boys are here again

[chorus]

The boys are back in town again
Been hangin' down at Dino's
The boys are back in town again

Love Hurts : Nazareth

Love hurts, love scars, love wounds and mars
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, ooo-oo, love hurts

I'm young, I know, but even so
I know a thing or two, I learned from you
I really learned a lot, really learned a lot
Love is like a flame, it burns you when it's hot
Love hurts, ooo-oo, love hurts

Some fools think of happiness, blissfulness, togetherness
Some fools fool themselves, I guess
They're not foolin' me
I know it isn't true, I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue
Love hurts, Ooo-oo, love hurts

I know it isn't true, I know it isn't true
Love is just a lie made to make you blue
Love hurts, ooo-oo, love hurts
Ooo-oo, love hurts, ooo-oo

Mr. Bojangles : Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I knew a man, Bojangles and he danced for you
In worn out shoes
Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants
The old soft shoe
He jumped so high
He jumped sp high
Then he'd lightly touch down

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was
Down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
As he spoke right out
He talked of life
He talked of life
He laughed, clicked his heels and stepped

He said his name, Bojangles and he danced a lick
Across the cell
He grabbed his pants, a better stance
Oh, he jumped so high
Then he clicked his heels
He let go a laugh
He let go a laugh
Pushed back his clothes all around

Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance

He danced for those in minstral shows and county fairs
Throughout the south
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him
Traveled about
The dog up and died
He up and died
After twenty years he still grieves

He said I dance now at every chance in honky tonks
For drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
He said I drinks a bit
He shook his head
And as he shook his head
I heard someone ask him please, please

Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles
Dance

Shattered (Turn The Car Around) : O.A.R

In a way, I need a change
From this burnout scene
Another time, another town
Another everything
But it's always back to you

Stumble out, in the night
From the pouring rain
Made the block, sat and thought
There's more I need
It's always back to you

But I'm good without ya
Yeah, I'm good without you
Yeah, yeah, yeah

How many times can I break till I shatter?
Over the line can't define what I'm after
I always turn the car around
Give me a break let me make my own pattern
All that it takes is some time but I'm shattered
I always turn the car around

I had no idea that the night
Would take so damn long
Took it out, on the street
While the rain still falls
Push me back to you

But I'm good without ya
Yeah, I'm good without you
Yeah, yeah, yeah

[chorus]

Give it up, give it up, baby
Give it up, give it up, now
Now

How many times can I break till I shatter?
Over the line can't define what I'm after
I always turn the car around
All that I feel is the realness I'm faking
Taking my time but it's time that I'm wasting
Always turn the car around

[chorus]

Don't wanna turn that car around
I gotta turn this thing around

Drift Away : Dobie Gray

Day after day I'm more confused
So I look for the light in the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
I'm feelin' the strain, ain't it a shame

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you to carry me through

[chorus]

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue
The guitar's comin' through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You help me along makin' me strong

[chorus]

Follow Me : Uncle Kracker

You don't know how you met me; you don't know why
You can't turn around and say goodbye

All you know is when I'm with you, I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea

I'm singin'
Follow me
Everything is all right
I'll be the one to tuck you in at night
And if you wanna leave, I can guarantee
You won't find nobody else like me

I'm not worried 'bout the ring you wear
Cuz as long as no one knows, then nobody can care

You're feelin' guilty and I'm well aware
But you don't look ashamed and baby I'm not scared

[chorus]

Won't give you money, I can't give you the sky
You're better off if you don't ask why

I'm not the reason that you go astray
We'll be alright if you don't ask me to stay

[chorus]

You don't know how you met me; you don't know why
You can't turn around and say goodbye

All you know is when I'm with you, I make you free
And swim through your veins like a fish in the sea

[chorus]

[chorus]

Red Red Wine : UB40

Red, red wine goes to my head
Makes me forget that I still need her so

Red, red wine, it's up to you
All I can do I've done
Memories won't go, memories won't go

Life is fine every time
Thoughts of you leave my head
I was wrong, now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine, stay close to me
Don't let me be alone
It's tearing apart my blue heart

Red red wine, you make me feel so fine
You keep me rockin' all of the time
Red red wine, you make me feel so grand
I feel a million dollar when you're just in my hand
Red red wine, you make me feel so sad
Any time I see you go, it make me feel bad
Red red wine, you make me feel so fine
Monkey back and ease up on the sweet deadline

Red red wine, you give me holy pahzing
Holy pahzing, you make me do my own thing
Red red wine, you give me not awful love
Your kind of lovin' like a blessing from above
Red red wine, I loved you right from the start
Right from the start, and with all of my heart
Red red wine in an eighties style
Red red wine in a modern beat style
Yeah

Give me a little time, let me clear out my mind
Give me a little time, let me clear out my mind
Give me red wine, the kind make me feel fine
You make me feel fine all of the time
Red red wine, you make me feel so fine
Monkey back and ease up on the sweet deadline
The line broke, the money get choked
Bunbah, ganjapani, little rubber boat
Red red wine, I'm gonna hold on to you
Hold on to you 'cause I know you love truth
Red red wine, I'm gonna love you till I die
Love you till I die, and that's no lie
Red red wine, can't get your off my mind
Wherever you may be, I'll surely find
I'll surely find. Make no fuss, just leave us

Smoke From A Distant Fire : The Sanford-Townsend Band

You left me here on your way to paradise
You pulled the rug right out from under my life
I know where you goin' to, I knew when you came home last night
'Cause your eyes had a mist from the smoke of a distant fire

Lord, I was stung, shoulda' seen it come a long time ago
When I realized, the reality gave me a role
If things are the same then explain why your kiss is so cold
and that mist in your eyes feels like rain on the fire in my soul

This lying and cryin' is upsettin' and gettin' ya nowhere
It don't stack up, so slack up and pack up --- I just don't care
Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out
Don't you drown when your dreamboat runs onto the ground

I'd just like to know: do you love him or just making time
By filling his glass with your fast flowing bitter-sweet wine
He'll taste the aftertaste when you come home late some night
With your eyes all amist from the smoke of a distant fire

Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire
Girl your eyes have the mist from the smoke of a distant fire
girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant fire
Girl your eyes have a mist from the smoke of a distant . . .
A distant fire

Go All The Way : The Raspberries

I never knew how complete love could be
'Til she kissed me and said

Baby, please, go all the way
It feels so right (feels so right)
Being with you here tonight
Please, go all the way
Just hold me close (hold me close)
Don't ever let me go

I couldn't say what I wanted to say
'Til she whispered, I love you

[chorus]

Before her love
I was cruel and mean
I had a hole in the place
Where my heart should have been

But now I've changed
And it feels so strange
I come alive when she does
All those things to me

And she says
(come on) Come on
(come on) Come on
(come on) Come on
(come on)
I need ya (come on)
I love ya (come on)
I need ya (come on)
Oh, oh, baby

[chorus]

Go on baby

Flagpole Sitta : Harvey Danger

I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(but no one ever does)

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in Hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a tv

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, goddamn you

[chorus]

I wanna publish zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind

Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm running underground with the moles
(Diggin big holes)

Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony --- they're killing me

[chorus]

Ode to Billie Joe : Bobbie Gentry

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinnertime we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"
And then she said "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge ---
Today Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

'n' Papa said to Mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well Billie Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please
There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
'n' Mama said it was shame about Billie Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

'n' Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece-a apple pie, you know it don't seem right;
I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge,
And now you tell me Billie Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

'n' Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?
Well, I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite!
That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today;
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way:
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge
And she and Billie Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billie Joe
'n' Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, Papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now Mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Erasure : A Little Respect

I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain
From breaking my heart

I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you gimme no reason
Why you make-a-me work so hard

That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no soul

I hear you calling
Oh baby please
Give a little respect to me

And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our hearts

I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover

Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no soul

[chorus]

I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you gimme no reason
You know you make-a-me work so hard

That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no
That you gimme no soul

[chorus]

[chorus]

Lady Marmalade : Labelle

Hey Sister, go Sister, soul Sister, go Sister
Hey Sister, go Sister, soul Sister, go Sister

He met Marmalade down in Old New Orleans
Struttin' her stuff on the street
She said, "Hello, hey Joe, you wanna give it a go?"

Mmm hmmm
Gitchi gitchi ya ya da da
Gitchi gitchi ya ya here
Mocha choco latta ya ya
Creole Lady Marmalade

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?
[Do you want to sleep with me tonight?]
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?

He stayed in her boudoir
While she freshened up
That boy drank all that Magnolia wine
Oh, the black satin sheets
Where he started to freak

[chorus]

Hey, hey, he-e-e-ey

Seeing her skin feelin' silky smooth
Color of cafe au lait
Made the savage beast inside
Roar until it cried, "More, more, more"

Now he's at home doin' nine to five
Living his grey flannel life
But when he turns off to sleep
All memories keep - more, more, more

Elissa : mamaboleo

You spin me inside outside
And then you hold me so tight
We'll dance and party all night
Mambo mambole
So kiss me in the moonlight
You know it always feels right
We'll dance and party all night
Mambo mambole

You're on my mind every day you are with me
And every night, boy, you dance in my dreams
We dance united --- together we are one
I'll take you there, baby, come home with me

Ahhhhhh
[chorus]

I fell in love with your voice and your laughter
And just one smile always makes me believe
My destiny's curious if you are mine
Oh, won't you tell me if we're meant to be

Ahhhhhh
[chorus]

Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole

And when you dance with me, boy,
I know you feel my equal
When you dance with me, boy,
I know you feel my equal

Ay ay ay ay ay ay!

Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole
Mambo mambole, oh mambo mambole

Ahhhhhh

Hallelujah : Rufus Wainwright

I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
love is not a victory march
Its a cold and its a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
The holy DOVE was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
Its not a cry you can hear at night
Its not somebody who's seen the light
Its a cold and its a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

What's Up? : 4 Non Blondes

Twenty-five years and my life is still
Trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination

I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this brotherhood of man
For whatever that means

And so I cry sometimes
When I'm lyin' in bed
Just to get it all out
What's in my head
And I
I am feeling a little peculiar

And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream from the top of my lungs
"What's going on?"

And I say hey, yea, yea, yea, yea
Hey, yea, yea
I said hey, what's going on?

And I say hey, yea, yea, yea, yea
Hey, yea, yea
I said hey, what's going on?

Ooh, oooh, oooh
Ooh, oooh, oooh

And I try
Oh my God, do I try
I try all the time in this institution
And I pray
Oh my God, do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution

And so I cry sometimes
When I'm lyin' in bed
Just to get it all out
What's in my head
And I
I am feelin' a little peculiar

[chorus]

El Paso : Marty Robbins

Out in the west Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Night time would find me in Rosa's cantina
Music would play and Felina would whirl

Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden
I was in love, but in vain, I could tell

One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the west Texas wind
Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina, the girl that I loved

So in anger . . .
I challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor

Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run

Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran
Out where the horses were tied
I caught a good one, it looked like it could run
Up on its back and away I did ride

Just as fast as . . .
I could from the west Texas town of El Paso
Out to the badlands of New Mexico

Back in El Paso my life would be worthless
Everything's gone; in life nothing is left
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death

I saddled up and away I did go
Riding alone in the dark
Maybe tomorrow a bullet may find me
Tonight nothing's worse than this pain in my heart

And at last here . . .
I am on the hill overlooking El Paso
I can see Rosa's cantina below
My love is strong and it pushes me onward
Down off the hill to Felina I go

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys
Off to my left ride a dozen or more
Shouting and shooting, I can't let them catch me
I have to make it to Rosa's back door

Something is dreadfully wrong, for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side
Though I am trying to stay in the saddle
I'm getting weary, unable to ride

But my love for . . .
Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen
Though I am weary, I can't stop to rest
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest

From out of nowhere Felina has found me
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for
One little kiss, then Felina good-bye

Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo : Rick Derringer

I couldn't stop moving when it first took hold
It was a warm spring night in the ol' town hall
There was a group called The Jokers, they were layin' it down
Don'tcha know I'm never gonna lose that funky sound

Rock and roll, Hoochie Koo
Lawdy mama light my fuse
Rock and roll, Hoochie Koo
Truck on out and spread the news

The skeeters start buzzing 'bout this time o' year
I'm goin' round back, she said she'd meet me there
We were rollin' in the grass that grows behind the barn
When my ears started ringin' like a fire alarm

[chorus]

Hope ya'll know what I'm talkin' about
The way they wiggle that thing, it really knocks me out
I'm gettin' high all the time, hope ya'll are too
Well come-on a little closer, gonna do it to you

[chorus]

That I'm tired of payin' dues
Done said goodbye to all my blues
Lawdy mama light my fuse

Voices Carry : Til Tuesday

[spoken by him]
I'm _so_ happy the band's doing well
By the way . . . what's with the hair? Is that part of the new "image"?

[sung]
In the dark, I like to read his mind
but I'm frightened of the things I might find
Oh, there must be something he's thinking of to tear him away
when I tell him that I'm falling in love, why does he say

Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry

I try so hard not to get upset
because I know all the trouble I'll get
oh, he tells me tears are something to hide and something to fear
and I try so hard to keep it inside so no one can hear

[chorus]

[spoken by him]
What happened? Practice run late?

You know, this little "hobby" of yours is going too far
Why can't you for *once* do something for me?

[spoken by her]
Like what?

[sung]
He wants me . . . but only part of the time
He wants me . . . if he can keep me in line

[chorus]

Hush hush, shut up now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Oh hush hush, darling, she might overhear
Hush hush --- voices carry
He said "shut up"
He said "shut up"
Oh God can't you keep it down
Voices carry
Hush hush voices carry

I wish he would let me talk

All For You : Sister Hazel

Finally I figured out
But it took a long, long time
But now there's a turnabout
Maybe 'cause I'm trying

There's been times, I'm so confused
All my roads, They lead to you
I just can't turn and walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
But words can't say, And I can't do
Enough to prove,
It's all for you

I thought I'd seen it all
'Cause it's been a long, long time
But then we'll trip and fall
Wondering if I'm blind

There's been times, I'm so confused
All my roads, They lead to you
I just can't turn and walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
But words can't say, And I can't do
Enough to prove,
It's all for you

Rain comes pouring down
Falling from blue skies
Words without a sound
Coming from your eyes

Finally I figured out
But it took a long, long time
But now there's a turnabout
Maybe cause I'm trying

There's been times, I'm so confused
All my roads, They lead to you
I just can't turn and walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
But words can't say, And I can't do
Enough to prove,
It's all for you

It's hard to say
It's hard to say
It's all for you

Rock and Roll Part 1 : Gary Glitter

Rock 'n' roll (rock)
Rock 'n' roll
Rock 'n' roll (rock)
Rock 'n' roll

Can you still recall in the Jukebox Hall when the music played
And the world span round to a brand new sound in those far off days
In their blue suede shoes they would scream and shout
As they sang the blues let it all hang out

[chorus]

Little Queenie bopped at the high school hop dancing to the beat
With her U.S. Mail and her pony tail well she looked so sweet
Times are changing fast, but we won't forget
Though the age is passed we'll be rockin' yet

[chorus]

Little Bit of Soul : Music Explosion

Now when you're feelin' low and the fish won't bite
You need a little bit o' soul to put you right
You gotta make like you wanna kneel and pray
And then a little bit of soul will come your way

Now when your girl is gone and you're broke in two
You need a little bit o' soul to see you through
And when you raise the roof with your rock'n'roll
You'll get a lot more kicks with a little bit o' soul

And when your party falls 'cause ain't nobody groovin'
A little bit o' soul and it really starts movin'
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

And when you're in a mess and you feel like cryin'
Just remember this little song of mine
And as you go through life tryin' to reach your goal
Just remember what I said about a little bit o' soul

A little bit o' soul, yeah (a little bit o' soul)

Driver's Seat : Sniff 'n' the Tears

Doin' alright
A little jiving on a Saturday night
And come what may
Gonna dance the day away

Jenny was sweet
She always smiled for the people she'd meet
On trouble or strife
She had another way of looking at life

The news is blue
Had it's own way to get to you
What can I do
When I remember my time with you

Pick up your feet
Got to move to the trick of the beat
There is no lead
Just take your place in the driver's seat

Driver's seat
Driver's seat

Long Tall Glasses : Leo Sayer

I was travellin' down the road
Feelin' hungry and cold
I saw a sign sayin'
"Food and drinks for everyone"
So naturally I thought I would
Take me a look inside
I saw so much food
There was water coming from my eyes

Yeah there was ham and there was turkey
There was caviar
And long tall glasses
With wine up to y'ar
And somebody grabbed me
Threw me out of my chair
Said before you can eat
You gotta dance like Fred Astaire

You know I can't dance you know I can't dance
You know I can't dance you know I can't dance
I can't dance

I am a man of the road
A hobo by name
I don't seek entertainment
Just poultry and game
But if it's all the same to you
Then yes I will try my hand
If you were as hungry as me
Then I'm sure you will understand

Now wait a minute

Of course I can dance, of course I can dance
I'm sure I can dance, I'm sure I can dance
I can dance
I really hit the floor
Ah it feels good
Look at me dancing

I did a two-step quick-step and a bossa nova
A little Victor Sylvester and a Rudy Valentino
You should have seen me moving
Right across the floor
Hand me down my tuxedo
Next week I'm coming back for more

I can dance
Oh yes I can dance
Look at me dance on the floor moving
I feel good
I can dance

Lil' Red Riding Hood : Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs

Owoooooooo
Who's that I see walkin' in these woods?
Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood!

Hey there Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything a big bad wolf could want

(Listen to me!)

Little Red Riding Hood
I don't think little big girls should
Go walking in these spooky old woods alone

Owoooooooo

What big eyes you have
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways

What full lips you have
They're sure to lure someone bad
So until you get to Grandma's place
I think you ought to walk with me and be safe

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone

Owoooooooo

Little Red Riding Hood
I'd like to hold you if I could
But you might think I'm a big bad wolf so I won't

Owoooooooo!

What a big heart I have
The better to love you with
Little Red Riding Hood
Even bad wolves can be good

I'll try to be satisfied
Just to walk close by your side
Maybe you'll see things my way
Before we get to Grandma's place

Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything that a big bad wolf could want

Owoooooooo
I mean "baaaaaa"
Baaa?

The Way : Fastball

They made up their minds and they started packing
They left before the sun came up that day
An exit to eternal summer slacking
But where were they going without ever knowing the way?

They drank up the wine and they got to talking
They now had more important things to say
And when the car broke down, they started walking
Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Anyone can see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
It's always summer, they'll never get cold
Never get hungry, they'll never get old and gray
You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home, but they really don't care
They wanted the highway, they're happier there today, today

Their children woke up and they couldn't find them
They left before the sun came up that day
They just drove off and left it all behind them
Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

[chorus]

[chorus]

Alone Again (Naturally) : Gilbert O'Sullivan

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top
Will throw myself off
In an effort to
Make it clear to whoever
Wants to know what it's like When you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Were people saying, "My God, that's tough,
She stood him up,
No point in us remaining ---
We may as well go home"
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to (who wouldn't do)
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much
as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God in His mercy
Oh, if he really does exist
Why did he desert me?
In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that
There are more hearts broken in the world
That can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do
What do we do

[instrumental]
Alone again, naturally

Now, looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start
With a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

First : Cold War Kids

Cheated and lied, broken so bad
You made a vow, never get mad
You played the game, though it's unfair
They're all the same, who can compare?

First you lose trust, then you get worried

Night after night, bar after club
Dropping like flies, who woke you up?
On the front lawn, sprinklers turn on
It's not your house, where'd you go wrong?

First you get hurt, then you feel sorry

Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth
Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one? I do not deserve
to wait around forever when you were there first

There comes a time in a short life
Turn it around, get a rewrite
Call it a dark night of the soul
Ticking of clocks, gravity's pull

First you get close, and you get hurried

[chorus]

You're growing silent, the silent treatment
It's not inviting now, but don't deny what you meant
You get excited, you get excited

You got a feeling, oh, at least you can pretend
You wanna light it, you wanna light it
You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends
You get excited, you get excited

[chorus]

[chorus]

First you get close, then you get worried

Son of a Preacher Man : Dusty Springfield

Billy Ray was a preacher's son
And when his daddy would visit, he'd come along
When they gathered around and started talkin'
That's when Billy would take me walkin'
Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise

The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes, he was, he was, ooh, yes, he was

Bein' good isn't always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin' to me
He'd come and tell me "Everything is all right"
He'd kiss and tell me "Everything is all right"
Can I get away again tonight?

[chorus]

How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin' kisses from me on the sly
Takin' time to make time
Tellin' me that he's all mine
Learnin' from each other's knowin'
Lookin' to see how much we've grown and

[chorus]

[chorus]

Rock and Roll (part one) : Gary Glitter

Rock and roll, rock, rock and roll
Rock and roll, rock, rock and roll

Can you still recall
In the juke box hall
When the music played

And the world spun 'round
To a brand new sound
In those far off days

In their blue suede shoes, they would scream and shout
As they sang the blues, let it all hang out

[chorus]

Little Queenie bopped
At the high school hop
Dancing to the beat

With her U.S. Male
And her pony tail
Well she looked so sweet

Times are changing fast, but we won't forget
Though the age has passed, they'll be rockin yet

[chorus]

No Mercy : Nils Lofgren

Out for the first, the atmosphere is heavy
World title lays on the line
Strong and proud, he is much older
I am the faster, I'm in my prime

Third round late, he starts to tire
Open cut over his left eye
Smelling blood, attack is relentless
In the box seats I see his girl cry

Crying
No mercy, no quarter
No place to hide from me or the man
Lefts and rights never came in harder
No mercy, take it while you can, now!
No mercy, take it while you can

Back in my corner they scream "No mercy!"
"Put him away, don't let him recover!"
Someone's eyes drill holes in my head
It is his proud determined mother

Crying
No mercy, no quarter
No place to hide from me or the man
Rights and wrongs never came in harder
No mercy, take it while you can, now!
No mercy, take it while you can

I wish another could do this thing for me
His eyes are flooded . . . God, he can't even see!
I've hunted this title but now it don't seem right
I fight back tears while I destroy his life

[chorus]

Cleveland Rocks : The Presidents Of The United States Of America

All this energy callin' me
Back where it comes from
It's such a crude attitude
It's back where it belongs

All the little kids growin' up on the skids going
Cleveland Rocks!
Cleveland Rocks!
Jumpin' Jane Jean is moonin' James Dean going
Cleveland Rocks!
Cleveland Rocks!

Mama knows but she don't care
She's got her worries too
Seven kids and a phony affair
And the rent is due

All the little chicks with the crimson lips going
Cleveland Rocks!
Cleveland Rocks!
Livin' in sin with a safety pin going
Cleveland Rocks!
Cleveland Rocks!

I got some records from World War Two
I play 'em just like me granddad do
He was a rocker and I am too
Now Cleveland rocks . . . now Cleveland rocks

Cleveland Rocks!
Cleveland Rocks!

OHIO

Michigan J. Frog : Michigan Rag

Everybody do the Michigan Rag
Everybody likes the Michigan Rag
Every Mame and Jane and Ruth
From Weehawken to Duluth
Slide, ride, glide the Michigan
Stomp, romp, pomp the Michigan
Jump, clump, pump the Michigan Rag
That lovin' rag!

Semisonic : Closing Time

Closing time --- open all the doors and let you out into the world
Closing time --- turn all of the lights on over every boy and every girl

Closing time --- one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer
Closing time --- you don't have to go home but you can't stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Closing time --- time for you to go out to the places you will be from
Closing time --- this room won't be open till your brothers or your sisters come

So, gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end, yeah

[chorus]

[chorus]

Closing time, every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end

MC Hammer : U Can't Touch This

You can't touch this  {repeat ad nauseam}

My, my, my my music hits me so hard
Makes me say, "Oh my Lord
Thank you for blessin' me
With a mind to rhyme and two hype feet"

It feels good, when you know you're down
A super dope homeboy from the Oaktown
And I'm known as such
And this is a beat, uh, you can't touch

I told you homeboy (You can't touch this)
Yeah, that's how we livin' and ya know (You can't touch this)
Look in my eyes, man (You can't touch this)
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics (You can't touch this)

Fresh new kicks, and pants
You gotta like that, now you know you wanna dance
So move outta yo seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
While it's rollin', hold on!
Pump a little bit and let 'em know it's goin' on
Like that, like that
Cold on a mission, so fall on back
Let 'em know, that you're too much
And this is a beat, uh, they can't touch

Yo, I told you (you can't touch this)
Why you standin' there, man? (You can't touch this)
Yo, sound the bell, school's in, sucka (You can't touch this)

Give me a song, or rhythm
Makin' 'em sweat, that's what I'm givin' 'em
Now, they know
You talkin' 'bout the Hammer, you're talkin' 'bout a show
That's hyped, and tight
Singers are sweatin', so pass them a wipe
Or a tape, to learn
What's it gonna take in the 90's to burn
The charts? Legit
Either work hard or you might as well quit

That's word because you know (You can't touch this)
(You can't touch this)

Break it down!
Stop, Hammer time!

Go with the flow, it is said
That if you can't groove to this then you probably are dead
So wave your hands in the air
Bust a few moves, run your fingers through your hair
This is it, for a winner
Dance to this and you're gonna get thinner
Move, slide your rump
Just for a minute let's all do the bump
(Bump, bump, bump)

Yeah (You can't touch this)
Look, man (You can't touch this)
You better get hype, boy, 'cause you know you can't (You can't touch this)
Ring the bell, school's back in

Break it down!
Stop, Hammer time!

Every time you see me, the Hammer's just so hyped
I'm dope on the floor and I'm magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doin' this?
With others makin' records that just don't hit
I've toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It's "Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer"
And the rest can go and play

Yeah (You can't touch this)
I told you (Can't touch this)
Too hot (Can't touch this)
Yo, we outta here (Can't touch this)

Gotye : Somebody That I Used To Know

Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough
No, you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Somebody (I used to know)
(Somebody) Now you're just somebody that I used to know
I used to know, that I used to know, I used to know somebody

Cameo : Word Up

Yo, pretty ladies around the world
Got a weird thing to show you
So tell all the boys and girls

Tell your brother, your sister and your mama too
Cause we're about to go down
And you know just what to do

Wave your hands in the air like you don't care
Glide by the people as they stop to look and stare
Do your dance, do your dance, do your dance quick
Mama, come on baby, tell me what's the word

Ah, word up
Everybody say
When you hear the call
You got to get it under way

Word up --- it's the code word
No matter where you say it
You know that you'll be heard

Now all you sucker D.J.s who think you're fly
There's got to be a reason and we know the reason why
You try to put on those airs and act real cool
But you got to realise that you're acting like fools

If there's music we can use it
We need to dance
We don't have the time for psychological romance
No romance, no romance, no romance for me
Mama, come on baby, tell me what's the word

Ah, word up
Everybody say
When you hear the call
You got to get it under way

Stumblin' In : Suzi Quatro

B: Our love is alive, and so we begin
B: Foolishly laying our hearts on the table
B: Stumblin' in
B: Our love is a flame, burning within
B: Now and then firelight will catch us
B: Stumblin' in

M: Wherever you go, whatever you do
M: You know these reckless thoughts of mine are following you
F: I've falling for you, whatever you do
F: 'Cause baby, you've shown me so many things that I never knew
B: Whatever it takes, baby, I'll do it for you

[chorus]

M: You were so young, ah, and I was so free
F: I may have been young but baby that's not what I wanted to be
M: Well, you were the one
F: Oh, why was it me?
M: baby, you've show me so many things that I never seen
B: Whatever you need, baby, you've got it from me

[chorus]

Dixie Chicken : Little Feat

I've seen the bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp, I met a Southern belle
Well, she took me to the river where she cast her spell
And in that southern moonlight she sang a song so well

If you'll be my Dixie chicken
I'll be your Tenessee lamb
And we can walk together
Down in Dixieland
Down in Dixieland

Well, we made all the hot spots, my money flowed like wine
Then that low down southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town
Oh, but boy, do I remember the strain of her refrain
The nights we spent together, and the way she called my name

[chorus]

Well, it's been a year since she ran away
Yes, that guitar player sure could play
She always liked to sing along, she's always handy with a song
Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel
I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well
And as he handed me a drink, he began to hum a song
And all the boys there at the bar began to sing along

[chorus]

On and On : Stephen Bishop

Down in Jamaica they got
Lots of pretty women
Steal your money then they
Break your heart
Lonesome Sue, she's in love with old Sam
Takeen from the fire into the frying pan

On and on
She just keeps on trying
And she smiles when she feels like crying
On and on, on and on, on and on

Poor old Jimmy sits
Alone in the moonlight
Saw his woman kiss another man
So he takes a ladder
Steals the stars from the sky
Puts on Sinatra and starts to cry

On and on
He just keeps on trying
And he smiles when he feels like crying
On and on, on and on, on and on

When the first time is the last time
Can make you feel so bad
But if you know it, show it
Hold on tight
Don't let her say goodnight

Got the sun on my shoulders
And my toes in the sand
Woman's left me for some other man
Ah but I don't care
I'll just dream and stay tan
Toss up my heart and see where it lands

On and on
I just keep on trying
And I smile when I feel like dying
On and on, on and on, on and on

On and on, on and on, on and on
On and on, on and on, on and on
