Finn's story ============== The warrior gazed levelly at her, measuring her up as a potential ally. He saw that she was lithe and very able. The basket-hilt sabre in its simple brown sheath testified that she know weapons. But, what else was hidden behind those black eyes? "And what would you have to offer?" Gernodt asked, motioning for the woman to have a seat. Dahlarin was studying her silently. Finn sat back in her chair, pondering what to say to these gentlemen. The truth? A version of it? A carefully constructed lie? She could do all of these things, and there was still enough time to pull out. But Finn was getting tired of pulling out, a shadow in the background. Time to come to the front. "If, kind sirs, you have no objections to a vampire travelling with you, then I offer my services," she recorded their looks, Gernodt's face incredulous, Dahlarin's amused, before she went on, "Truth. I need blood to survive, but not the blood of my friends. I have certain talents that you might find useful, being what I am. However, I don't blame you for turning me down; after centuries, one gets used to it." Having thrown the truth on the table, she looked anxiously at her two companions. "And," Finn added, before Dahlarin and Gernodt could speak, "You may find me tomorrow night, here as usual. I must go now; it has been a long journey. I will leave you to discuss whether or not you wish me to join you. Until tomorrow night then?" "Surely you will be available sometime tomorrow?" Dahlarin asked quietly with eyes full of questions. Gernodt grunted his agreement. "I'm afraid not," Finn told them, managing to produce a fair copy of a yawn, "But I will be around, certainly." Finn left their table before the two men could ask anymore questions. She needed to get a room, and quickly. The sky outside was beginning to pale. "The matin draws near," she whispered to herself, remembering old times again. ************************************************************************** Next Time: Yet another entrance **************************************************************************
