Myrlight accepts a gift

Myrlight looked at Fox and then back at the ring.  She thought about it 
for a minute and then decided to believe Fox that it was a magical ring.  
Only when she had decided that did she allow herself to show how pleased 
she was. She picked it up, and thought it a good way to change the topic.
 
"Gee, Fox, you didn't have to do that...just helping out a fellow traveler
was all I was doing...but it's really nice all the same...my dad always 
used to say 'A ring in the sling is a handy thing'...thought I guess he 
should've said 'pocket' instead of 'sling'..but that wouldn't have rhymed 
so well...uh, where was I...oh yeah!  It's really nice.  I'm glad to have 
it, keeping away vampires it a really handy thing for a little ring to 
do..though,"  she looked at the ring thoughtfully "I guess if I wear this 
I won't ever get a chance to see what a vampire looks like, will I?"  
When Fox nodded, a slight smile on her face, Myrlight sat thoughtfully.
  
Mind you, kenders don't have death wishes, but a kender wouldn't be a kender
if she didn't have the insatiable desire to see new things and meet new 
people.

 Once again, though, self-preservation won out.  It would be interesting,
Myrlight thought, to meet a vampire, but not quite so interesting if she
couldn't tell people about it afterwards, being dead and all. 
 
After putting the ring on her left hand (and it fit strangely well) she
pulled out her travel sack and took out a strange harp-like instrument. 
Strange, because one set of strings crossed the instrument horizontally, 
while the other set was strung vertically.  Myrlight casually put the 
instrument up to her shoulder and, seeing Fox give the odd thing a 
puzzled glance, the kender shrugged and began softly strumming the 
instrument.
  
"My Uncle Trapspringer made it a long time ago," Myrlight said.  "It's kinda
funny looking, I know, but once you learn how to play it it's more fun than
some other instruments.  It's called a Quarter Longwide Harp."  And with that
she sat and strummed the instrument thoughtfully, missing another puzzled
glance from Fox because she was looking into space.  After a moment she
commented "It sounds nice with a Double Backward-and-a-Half Flute, too."  
 
And with that she once again lapsed into strumming silence.
