She had a minor argument with the bartender about some things that had disappeared from his larder, and while she did have some travel rations and other food in her pouches that had mysteriously appeared there sometime the night before, she decided against telling him because, really, was it her fault his food had the habit of wandering into other people's pockets? (Besides, he could have asked nicely...) The kender was glad when he finally grudgingly brought her her breakfast and then left. After all, it was such a nice morning and she wanted to enjoy it while she was still here at this nice inn. She'd thought about staying a little longer, but she'd felt restless all last night and that meant it was time to hit the road again. "Ah well," she sighed to herself as she ate her breakfast, not really feeling disappointed. It was a nice place, but in an ordinary sort of way, and she could almost hear the new places and new people along the room calling for her to hurry up. She hoped she'd get a chance to say goodbye to Fox before she left. She almost didn't. Myrlight had just paid for her breakfast and the rooms (she thought the bartender charged her far too much, but as she'd unexpectedly found a few new coins in her pocket she decided not to bother about it) and was gathering her cloak and pack and hoopak when Fox walked into the main gathering room. A greeting died halfway from Myrlight's throat to her lips. Something...didn't feel right. There was Fox, looking just the same as she had the past few days (looking a little smug...she'd had a tumble in the furs, the lucky stiff), but something was wrong....bad maybe. The kender blinked confusedly, opening her mouth to say something and then changing her mind and closing it again. Her eyes kept on saying "Nothing's wrong nothing's wrong" but her hd kept on saying "Don't dawdle you silly twit; get OUT! Something's wrong and it's wrong in a major big way. Run while you can, call the city guard..." Myrlight shook herself after this thought. Call the city guard? For what? An over-enthusiastic case of the heebie-jeebies? What would she say? "'Lo there guardsman, awfully sorry to bother you, but would you and about ten or twelve of your men mind coming with me over to the inn? There's this woman there and she hasn't broken the law in any way I can see or anything but something's different about her this morning and it just doesn't feel right." If Myrlight was lucky they'd just laugh at her. Otherwise they might just throw her in the cell for being a loudmouthed fool. Myrlight finally managed to paste what she hoped was a sincere looking smile on her face and say "Uh...hi, Fox, glad I got to see you....just leaving actually and..um...wanted to say goodbye and..uh..and stuff I suppose..." *************************************************************************** This story is a collaboration of seven people: one German, two Canadians and four Americans.
