FINISHING TOUCH
Evanston, Ill. | Nov. 20, 1920
To appease the fans, Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne sends star George Gipp and his separated left shoulder in for the waning seconds of a game against Northwestern. Gipp, from punt formation, throws a school-record 70-yard touchdown pass to Norman Barry in the 33-7 victory. Three weeks later, Gipp died of strep throat and pneumonia.
